If you go with your regular 220: Approx 8 hours to recharge, 8 hours of electricity use - guess it depends on your kilowatt rate.

After recharging, you are able to drive.........40 miles on the battery.

That is what I could call a LEMON.
Using some very rudimentary math I find that my sons who drive 40 miles to work and are there from 8:00 to 6:00 would manage to get charged up completely for their return home. I guess this isn't bad if they can get their employer to put in the necessary recharging station. I forgot to say that there are more than just two who drive at least that far to that job. Think of the outlets that would be needed.

The volt is a good start in the right direction for energy independence, but the "green" selling point is just marketing.
Thanks for the info.

So if someone does commute their 40 miles per day with this car it would be 200 per week, that wouldn't take much to reach the break even point you speak of.

Either way I'm not sure where the arm & leg thing is coming from.

Over the summer two salary bosses went out and bought Toyota Priuses, ( I'm in the company union) but we get along really well, anyway I can remember bustin their stones for buying Hybrids while working at an oil refinery in the northeast. Today those two guys (friends) were laid off with about 150 other people. I feel bad, both for their families, and themselves personaly, especially right before Christmas. But as I asked over the summer
"Would you rather have a car that gets 40miles to a gallon or have a job"?

To me Its like working for Ford and buying a Chrysler.
