Any Republican response to this guy. Do you approve of him?

Sound like the airport might be down to one Mountain Dew dispenser before long. lol

What is the 52 million dollar Homeland Security place. Is that where they breed TSA Agents?

It's the National Institute for Hometown Security located at Somerset, KY. It's a 501 (c) non-profit corporation.

According to their website About NIHS | The NIHS, this is their function:

The National Institute For Hometown Security (NIHS) provides an on-going, integrated program dedicated to (1) developing new technologies and devices through qualified academic research that protect community-based critical infrastructure and (2) facilitating the successful deployment of the technologies. By promoting collaboration among a number of institutions, NIHS offers a flexible research platform that matches research requirements with research resources. NIHS also focuses on the application of the product of research and development. Through its commercialization program, NIHS encourages technology transfer and laboratory-to-market processes that support the ultimate adoption of new technology and products...

The NIHS Commercialization Program
The National Institute For Hometown Security is focused not only on playing a role in discovering new solutions that support community-based critical infrastructure protection, but also on facilitating the transfer of new technologies and products from the laboratory to the marketplace and, ultimately, into use.

In other words, it's a thinnly disguised organization which is being used to funnel tax dollars to favorite corporations and universities for "research." And, worse, once that "research" is completed, the NIHS is committed to making sure the right corporate buddies get the information so they can use it to make a profit. In other words, your tax dollars are being used to fund research for corporate America.

So far, the transfer of tax dollars to corporations and universities has been so successful that businesses are moving into the area to take advantage of the moola. So much so, that it's now called the "Silicon Holler."

What Rogers and the Institutes President and CEO, Ewell H. Balltrip, have done is lavish your tax money on a local jobs creation scheme and welfare for corporations and universities.

Interestingly, Rogers himself says this on his website today:

"...Five months ago, we couldn’t find 0.23 percent savings in a $44 billion security spending bill for nonsecurity items, but this is about to change...."
Roll Call - Grab a Shovel and Start Digging Out of Debt - Congressman Hal Rogers

Really, Congressman Rogers? Are you sure about that? Did you happen to look at the millions you've funneled through the NIHS and see if that's money well spent?

I didn't think so.

This is just Republican politics as usual. They're among the very best at hiding corporate welfare behind innocent or important sounding names and handing you the bill, all the while publicly preaching about curtailing the spending.

Now, since Rogers will have his hand literally in the cookie jar with his new Committee chairmanship, I'll bet the good times continue to roll in eastern Kentucky.

I saw him being interviewed and when questioned about the airport his only response was to mention his work in flood control, not a word about the airport. Fiscal responsibility my arse

I guess this is what change looks like. They didn't even get in office yet and they increased the deficit by keeping the tax cuts and agreeing to the unemplyment extension. Now this is the congressman they have watching the books.

His daughter needed a job you know!

More recently, Rogers was able to secure $5 million dollars for conservation groups that work with wild cats. Among the organizations that could benefit from the money is the Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund, which employs Rogers' daughter.

Oh, he'll be doing much more than just watching the books!

That House committee, and it's sub-committees, have the responsibility for writing the budget and allocating every penny the US government spends. That gives the Chairman ENORMOUS power over what gets spent and on what. Moreover, he's in a position to control other members of Congress, such as the new Tea Partier's, by holding their legislation hostage. Play ball or it dies in committee.

Once again, the Republican leadership is telling the Tea Partier's in no uncertain terms: "Thanks for your vote, but now that you've put is back into power.....buzz off." And, they're counting on your memory being short so that when they come around in 2012 telling the same lies, you'll believe them again.

They're probably right about that.

Maybe there is an upside like when the CIA hires a convicted hacker to help defend their networks, who would better know how pork is put in the budget than Rogers. I am not a tea party fan but its is it any wonder they didn't want any competition to threaten to their "conservatism".

Is there anyway to track the 5 million her grabbed for his daughters PET project? We need to see where it is spent and what it is spent for and who is spending it.
Republicans please don't be shy. This affects all of us.
