Ever try to clean shower mildew with soap? That mildew is bacteria that feeds on the animal fat present in most soaps. So what happens when you scrub that mildew with soapy water? Well, you're force-feeding the little bastards.

Thing is, when you donate food and call it a day, you think you're helping to solve a problem but you're actually making it worse. When rich people pat themselves on the back thinking that they're helping to alleviate problems, they're unknowingly encouraging those poor Africans to keep on doing what they're doing (being poor and helpless). You feed those youngest of poor people, that keeps them alive long enough to grow up and make even more poor people. So when you feed poor people, those poor people use the energy from all that food in their stomachs as fuel to get it on and make more poor people. 100 fed poor people becomes 300 poor people. 300 becomes 700. So on, so forth (ignore the random numbers btw).

If we're gonna throw food at poor Africans, we need to find ways to make birth control pills taste good so the women will think they're candy.
US aid has destroyed farming in many African nations. What incentive does a farmer have to farm when his number one competitor is free food?

This is undoubtedly the most ignorant(to be charitable) post that I've read all day, and I've read a bunch of them.

Most wealthy Americans send their charity overseas thinking they are sending a message to politicians when, in fact, they are turning their backs on the poor in their own country.

I can't wait for one of you folks to post a list of wealthy americans and where there charitable donations go. Of course that wouldn't be nearly as easy and self aggrandizing as just feeding off the latest headline.

If you have some time check out this video interview. It explains one basic reason African countries are under developed. It's a lack of clear and enforced property/land rights. If it's not clearly established who owns what land then it won't be clear on who should benefit from the land's resources. Maybe Bono and the rest should focus on helping with this issue.

+1 ^^^

Why do the rich help Africa instead of their own country? Maybe its because they figure pple in this country have a better chance of survival and more opportunities compared to those in Africa. Better they spend it on some worthy charity abroad than on more material crap for themselves. There are some 2 million street children in the Philippines, but that doesnt get talked about much.

You are privy to their bank accounts and how they spend their money? Is that a wikileak or summin'?
