I don't get why people like Bill Gates and Bono keep on spending money on Africa when there are some very poor people in the US. The papers always talk about how the rich are donating their money but they either spend it on Africa or frivolous art projects.

Because Africa has natural resources like oil, diamonds, gold, silver, rubber, etc. Plus it's the in vogue thing to do. Help the poor in your country? Pff, what are they going to provide you? Plus, they are already dependent on Democrats (or in your case the NDP and Liberals) with their welfare checks so they will keep voting for them no matter what.

the rich donate to many different charities, not all of them benefit other countries. african donations are in the news right now, next year it will be some other area, perhaps south america. but the foundations that the rich have set up also benefit many in the US including the poor.

For all the money and food Africa has received..even since I was a little kid, they are still no better off today. I think my mother even grew up hearing about the "starving children in Africa".

That's because too many Westerners are too retarded to figure out that food alone has the opposite of it's intended effect on starving Africans.

Ever try to clean shower mildew with soap? That mildew is bacteria that feeds on the animal fat present in most soaps. So what happens when you scrub that mildew with soapy water? Well, you're force-feeding the little bastards.

Thing is, when you donate food and call it a day, you think you're helping to solve a problem but you're actually making it worse. When rich people pat themselves on the back thinking that they're helping to alleviate problems, they're unknowingly encouraging those poor Africans to keep on doing what they're doing (being poor and helpless). You feed those youngest of poor people, that keeps them alive long enough to grow up and make even more poor people. So when you feed poor people, those poor people use the energy from all that food in their stomachs as fuel to get it on and make more poor people. 100 fed poor people becomes 300 poor people. 300 becomes 700. So on, so forth (ignore the random numbers btw).

If we're gonna throw food at poor Africans, we need to find ways to make birth control pills taste good so the women will think they're candy.

As long as it is their own money,I don't care.

As to Africa's situation....if you can find it online, read a piece called 'Let Africa Sink' by Kim Du Toit.

Gates probably sees how f'd up it is over here and figures he can get more bang for his aid dollars over in Africa.
