Yes because raising taxes on the middle and working class in order to cut the taxes on the wealthy would solve problems.....

It would solve problems if every single citizen had some skin in this game, yes. People who are actually paying taxes are much less likely to vote for entitlements for others when it takes more out of their pockets. It is unsustainable for a minority of the population to pay 100% of this country's income taxes and support a non-contributing majority who has discovered they can vote themselves money.

Do you not see that the AMT is clearly hitting the middle class? Do you not see the tax rate that Democrats want to raise on individuals earning $200K or couples earning $250K hits the middle class? The working class is included in the middle class.

I'd like to know, who's stopping them from doing that???

Can anyone explain that??

[complete silence]

My guess is a yearly patch on the AMT is the quicker and easier solution than totally re working it. That of course doesn't mean they shouldn't fix it as a whole instead of these year to year patches, but that is likely the reason. Also its been more than the last two years we have had the patches. The original AMT was passed in 1969 and the AMT in its current form was passed in 1982. A few changes were made to the AMT during the 80's and 90's. Patches have been made on an almost yearly basis since 2001.

Individuals earning $200,000 and families earning $250,000 are in the top 2%, thats not exactly middle class.

C'mon smash. Let's call a spade a spade... It's both parties holding the middle class hostage; I expect this from the GOP, not the Dems --aren't democrats the party for the middle class?? it's leverage that pols love to abuse. This tax is hitting lower middle class 75k-120k, how in the hell is this allowed to go on?

Come on folks, the dems have had 4 years to work on this and just now and only after the reps kick their butts do they even bring it up.

The dems were about to let these tax cuts go away and screw over millions of middle class Americans come January.

They had the intent of screwing people over until the people booted them out of control.

The dems had no other reason to even talk about it.

Besides the dems need to the money, they have spent more money and put us in more debt over the last 4 years then anyone of us can imagine.

They thought the American people were too stupid to allow them to not even talk about it for the last 4 years.

The dems got a shock and now are paying for it.

They truly believed they would never lose control and was about to put a screwing to working middle class Americans.

Earnings does not equate to accumulated wealth. Earning $200K is a far shot from earning 3 Million or being a multi millionare or billionare. And yet, the Democrat tax hike would be the same. Does that not seem unblanced to you?

Having earnings in the top 2% simply is not middle class, plain and simple. Those close to the mark will see little or no increase (since the first $250,000 of income won't be subject to any increase). Not to mention the fact the GOP also voted against extended the cuts to those making under $1 million (the bottom 99.7%)

This administration, and these Democrats are such a disaster!
We must never raise taxes, or things will be much worse.
As long as we don't raise more people or they need more stuff we should be fine.

4 years, 1460 days, 35,040 hours and they couldn't manage to get this done. Yet they somehow pulled off a $700 Billion TARP in less than 24 hours. Load of BALONEY!
