The huge disparity would have existed even if McCain had won. It was the economic crash and bounce back that caused the huge difference.

That's not actually the reason why gas prices are high, but let's have some fun with that. I'm sure the OP wouldn't be against the sacred, invisible hand of the free market no? He wouldn't be against corporate profits, right?
