From the above linked article:
“Mark Madoff took his own life today. This is a terrible and unnecessary tragedy...."

Suicide is particularly selfish when one has small children. Seems the selfish gene runs in the Madoff family. Sad for the children who just lost their father.

I am sorry to hear about anyone who feels so desperate that they can't see any other way except suicide. I don't care who they are.

Sometimes people become so self absorbed & busy they don't even recognize other family members who have symptoms of sadness & depression. It's very sad.

... Mark’s father-in-law reported the grisly find — the younger Madoff, 46, hanging fully clothed from a black dog leash attached to a pipe in the apartment ceiling. His 2-year-old son was sleeping in a nearby bedroom and was unharmed, as was their labradoodle.
Thank God they informed us the dog was unharmed!

He didn't feel guilty when he was spending all that money, but only when people thought he was guilty. He lived a selfish life and killed himself in a selfish manner.

And sometimes people don't even read the linked articles because that was not the case in this instance.

And people think that biblical "sins of the father" stuff is bunk.

And no I don't need a bunch of posts about the ambiguity between the new and old testament passages on this subject.

Sounds like he just couldn't bear the thought of living with less of that stolen money. He loved the money more than life itself, more than his wife and child. The love of money is the root of all evil.

I am actually surprised something like this didn't happen earlier. It's too bad he did not place the child with the mother before taking this step. I don't know if he knew what his mother and father were up to so I will not comment on him taking his life.

I suspect he thought his family would be better off if not placed in the position to face the Trustee lawsuit that was filed yesterday. A permanent escape from a temporary situation. People often think that suicide is an unselfish act in such circumstances when it is just the opposite. Just my opinion.
