Two African-American Democrats on Thursday announced that they were joining the Republican Party.
Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell and former state executive committee member Andre Walker said the Democratic Party had grown too liberal and they are finding a new home with the Republicans.
Their changing of parties had more to do with the fact that here in GA, you cannot get elected in areas outside of Atlanta really unless you are a Republican. Regardless of liberal or conservative ideas, here in GA the majority of voters just don't like Democrats so these two did what they had to do to get elected and keep themselves out of the unemployment lines.
Georgia politics now-a-days are simple. If you are a Republican (I would bet even a child molesting, murderous rapist Republican) you will beat any Democrat, even if they are conservative just because you have that R near your name and that is the only thing that the majority of Georgia voters look for.

I agree that feeling of " to liberal" is going to cost the democrats even more supporters for time to come
But but, why would they want to join the party that supports racism, xenophobia, segregation (and would institute slavery if given the chance)? I'm guessing these blacks are right to bolt from the Democrats, since Democrats only have room for tolerant, open-minded people

Oh oh! Don't forget that even the Republican that cries Jim Crow and slavery will get elected too, because these are the two issues that matter to the Georgia GOP

Then....how did they get elected in the first place?

Says more about how bad Dems are perceived than it does about the GOP.
Won't be long before the lib's break out the Uncle Tom label on these guys.
Lets hope they are real and stick to the conservative ideology.

So, what is your excuse for Sanford Bishop and John Barrow? Their districts are far from Atlanta yet Democrats were elected in them. Jim Marhsall is another central Georgia Democrat. It was only recently (2003) that Republicans even took control of Georgia's state legislature.
Perhaps you haven't been paying attention to MSNBC commentator repeated comments about the Republican Party.
