To be honest with you, I really don't know what I'd do. It's fairly easy to say, I'd want them dead, but at the end of the day idk if I would. Most of the time I do not agree with the death penalty, however if someone tortures someone to death, that's usually my only exception. For me, it's not about tax dollars b/c your tax dollars are always going to be used towards something that you don't agree with. I would be fine w/ either one, execution or letting them rot in supermax security prison for life.

On one of those late night gang prison shows, I heard a gang member on death row say something along the lines of the death penalty is the worst that can happen, if you kill one or 1000.

Why should the taxpayers be saddled with maintaining a murderer? Why should society be burdened with the knowledge that a murderer will possibly one day be released only to murder again? Tell me, when has an executed prisoner ever been a repeat offender?

They aren't but it doesn't deter the crime of that particular area either. Also the way the DP is practiced is rather biased in race, sex, and social class.

Default If someone murdered your friend or family member, would you demand the Death Penalty?

I would want them to get the death penalty but I don't think I would be allowed to demand it, I don't think that's up to me.

I just know that I personally could not handle that job. Even if they did murder someone, I could not be an executioneer, it would eat me alive at night.

Yep, and I'd want to watch it take place.

"If someone murdered your friend or family member, would you demand the Death Penalty?"

Frankly, I wouldn't even attend the trial. Having covered more murder trials than I can think of I can't think of anything more destructive to the soul that attending a love one's murder trial, the appeals or anticipating their subsequent execution. What struck this home to me one day was after talking with a victims family I was re-entering the courtroom when I looked at the sign hung on the courtroom door that stated, The State of vs John Whatever. A criminal trial, and the punishment that it metes out is an act of the state against the perpetrator not you. I might also add, that in the case of a love one being murdered by a stranger, you have no more knowledge of the defendants guilt than what the police and the prosecutor tells you. No, I would not demand the death penalty, I would try instead to rebuild my life as best as I could and try to move on.

In principle I'm in favor of the death penalty. In terms of practicality, I'm against it. Usually death row inmates spend years or decades incarcerated before the death penalty is finally carried out (if ever). I think lifetime solitary confinement might be a very suitable replacement.
