Nope..you only have to buy it if you want to drive..same way that having a license is mandatory...insurance protects those you hit..if you are insolvent..doesn't matter..you collect from the insurance...otherwise most people would be screwed..forced to buy health insurance with the alternative being fined...that's a whole different matter...

not really. if you dont have insurance and enter a hospital who is really paying. I don't like the idea of being fined any more than a TSA grope but how else are we going to ensure compliance?

Funny how some people are opposed to judicial activism when it suits them (e.g. Iowa) but are also in favor when it suits them

Anyway, let it go to the Supreme Court. As the cost of health care rises, as States cut back on their health care programs, as Medicare & Medicaid eat up more and more tax dollars and as employers continue to cut back on benefits, even Republicans are going realize that proper health care reform is inevitable.

Then what is the cigarette tax paying for: Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) – is a program administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides matching funds to states for health insurance to families with children. The program was designed with the intent to cover uninsured children in families with incomes that are modest but too high to qualify for Medicaid.

Finally, a judge who got it right

Some of the Obama reforms were overdue. But his concept of making everyone buy private insurance or be fined is just a sell-out to the insurance industry. He has done nothing to address the real problem which is the spiraling cost of health care in this country.

Since when is abiding by the U.S. Constitution 'judicial activism?'

It isn't. It's merely upholding the Constitution.

I agree with you but capitalism is the paradigm here so asking people to make less money is not realistic.....so getting citizens covered and risk spread out may be the only alternative....if the nation keeps fighting guzillions $$ worth or wars I don't really think that will change....you?

Correct. This needs to be struck down and done over.
