Your logic leads me to think pedophile priests will only need to pay mind to the county line. Preying on minors is evil. Adults have no business being in sexual relationships with minors. The laws of consent are philosophically geared towards teens being with one another. The law is running contrary to families, the law needs review.
You want me to convict this man? Not guilty by reason of temporary insanity. At best I'd sentence him to a week the same way I would mamma bear tearing the guys head off for messing with her kids. Don't mess with kids if you don't want problems. The law won't be taken into peoples hands if the law defended families. Clearly it is not. The law needs to step up if common decency can't. Sorry. Your 'right' to seduce adolescents, or their 'right' to seduce adults, needs a social & legal kick in the behind.
AND I agree that girls these days are not behaving responsibly. What parent in their right mind lets these girls walk the street the way they do? There's nothing in this story to indicate that anyone in the relationship was "preying" on the other. You're reading into that because of the age difference, which is completely generalizing the situation.
Not guilty? Really? For a violent and malicious act committed with complete disregard for human life and the law? A 17-year old girl is not really a kid any more. You might chalk this up to a recent trend toward moral degeneracy, but the fact of the matter is that going back in history, girls much younger were being married off. I realize the life expectancy was shorter, but the point still stands. It says nowhere that anyone seduced anyone. For all anyone knows, it could have been a fruitful relationship based on mutual love/trust/understanding. And even if it was just a sexual thing, again...these 17 year-olds are just as in on it as any "adult".
All joking aside(Phillies signed Cliff Lee so I'm still in a great mood) he did not deserve to have his nutz cut off, but a senior citizen with a teenager is disgusting and gross. This guy should of had enough smarts to at least talk to her dad. C'mon guys we've all been there, dating a girl who's dad was a little scary and not one of us had this happen. At 57 he should of known better.
BTW the age of consent is 14 in Germany, the daughter was 17.
Still too young in my book. I think that any man that does stuff like that to a chiild should end up like that guy. My neighbor raped a 12 year old girl. I get to see his smug face everyday. If it were my daughter, he would be intact, but he wouldn't be alive. Either, is a good punishment, though.

Lot of response, interesting how worked up some got over others that seemed in support of the father.....Heres the deal, I said I probably would have done the same thing, in reality I probably wouldn't have, although I certainly would let the 57 year old know that he should never even think about coming anywhere near my 17 year old daughter again. This raises some interesting questions though , in my state the 57 year old would be arrested and become a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.(If you assume they were having sex), But other areas same circumstance as some have stated is perfectly legal and there should be no outrage over it. This is a reason I have some issues with age of consent laws, when is a girl legal, becomes ambiguous and arbitrary. Another point that needs to be made is, a 17 year old girl "dating" a 57 year old man is obviously trying to fill something that is missing most likely from her father, who might bear some responsibility for her actions...having said that any one that has raised a teen ager knows they will bring you to your knees at some point one way or another.
Truth is, as much as you may think you'd do this to the man who had sex with your 17 year old daughter, most of you (probably NONE of you) would do a damn thing about it besides begging your daughter to stop or asking the man to stay away from her. You're not going to commit an irrational act of violence like this even if you did have the guts to do it (and you don't).
This is a sad ordeal. Now the daughter has to live with the results of this mess. Telling teenage girls what to do is an exercise in futility half the time. And when it comes to dating, the more you tell them to stay away from a certain guy, the more they usually want them. As perverse as a 57 yr old dating a 17 yr old might be, it's legal in Germany. And that's all that matters at the end of the day.
