The Gays issue. Are we in the West just another Iran?
In terms of hypocrisy that is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_3RUwAJ_MI&feature=related

We seem to condemn Iranís denigration and discrimination of Gays and women while at the same time forgetting that we do not give full equality to our own women and Gays and are indeed fighting these notions.

Are we just pots calling the kettle black in these issues while hypocritically doing the same as Iran and other countries who we are trying to preach to in terms of human rights?

I think that we are. We do not walk our talk so can we actually expect others to take our advise and lead when we ourselves do not live up to our own expectations?

Can we expect them to change their views which in a sense are more honest than our own?

Are Christians and Muslims world wide no better than the Iranian Muslims?

Are we just hypocrites and homophobes and chauvinists at heart?
Or,
Are we just bullies?

Nobody said gays are not allowed to exist. Nobody is trying to kick them out of the country. I'm slightly offended that someone would even liken the U.S. to Iran in any way, or liken Christians to Muslims.

Comparing America's attitude to Iran's.... let's compare water to oil or apples to oranges too.

Of course we are not another Iran! If we were, the "progressives" would be supporting us instead of condemning us.

Your screen name is apropos then.

Since Middle Eastern models are what you and so many others dream for in the West, I'm sure you think Saudi Arabia's policy towards christians should be adopted here too?

To the OP: The US used to be the leader of the free world. Now its merely the biggest country with the most military influence. Nobody looks to the US for moral guidance anymore, because the rest of Western Civilization has bypassed us. Are we as bad as Iran? No, but many of our ideals we share more in common with the theocratic and dictatorial cesspools and banana republics of the third world than of our civilization's birthplace.

If this doesn't answer the question I don't know what would. Such blatant intolerance. Guess you like beating up gays on your free time huh? put any in the hospital?

Do readers think this person has any better views towards blacks? Hispanics? the handicapped, or women? This is the ignorance that must be overcome. These are the people that think it's ok to tie a small guy up on a fence post and beat him to death. Your attitudes are vulgar.,

In general, we are much more open and progressive than the Iranians. However, we do have our own version of religious mullahs and they have a following which some politicians need to exploit to get votes.......

Exactly. Extremism is still extremism whether it's Islamic or Christian.
