Anbar Province has been all but given up in that everybody here thought it was hopeless. Guess the soldiers didn't think so. Neither did the field commanders.
On another thread, somebody posted a message saying, "The Iraqi's don't want us there." Guess he gets his information from a different source.

I think you should ask a mod to fix the title of this thread.

In another 2 months the majority of Iraqis are going to be feeling better about their security and future.
I would be pissed off also. Rumsfeld was told a force level of at least 400,000 troops would be needed to provide security for a rebuilding Iraq after winning the war.
Rumsfeld has cost American and Iraqi lives by not listening to war game scenarios and his Generals.
The Iraqi have every right to be pissed off, but it's getting better and this new strategy is working!

We (the UK) get much plainer news than you appear to do it's not actually improving. The US and the UK are discussing pulling out right now.
How they do it will be the thing but as I said elswhere Bush and Brown will need the cooperation of all of Iraq's neighbours to avoid a power vacume.

Famenity, what happens is our news media here are all lap dogs to the administration, looking for scraps. So they have to filter the news and make sure they do not offend the administration too much, in the face of what would appear to be outright stupidity and idiocy to the rest of the world.

It is improving and the U.S./U.K. troops are winning in Iraq.
The U.S. and U.K. are talking about British troops being able to pull out NOT U.S. troops.
I don't get all my news on what is going on the ground in Iraq from the BBC, Associated Press, Fox News, or CNN.
I also get it from embedded journalists, multi-national force Iraq, and American Soldiers on the ground actually serving in Iraq.
I also have established contact with an Iraqi living in Baghdad who gives me first hand reports on what's going on on the ground in Baghdad, Iraq.
I might ask him to start posting here to let you guys actually talk to an Iraqi and get his first hand opinion.

Why would we pull out if we were 'winning' and what do you mean by 'winning'?
What all this shows is that you cannot bludgen a nation into submission. After all even though a small population Iraq still has 20 million inhabitants (or rather had there is a huge refugee problem now).
So lets get our heads around peace, prevent the manufacture of arms and the profiting by giving these arms away as overseas aid and getting cheap resources in exchange. Understand our responsibility when those arms are used for controlling the despots society.
Talking is better than war.
The harm created by the west throughout the 20th century in it's greedy bid for power can be put right, but not by guns. The Uk was the first to use gas here in 1922 and several expediant gassing followed so don't lets preach, lets get out and really help the people by recognising that they have just as much right to be on this planet as anyone.

Do you have any idea what the British Forces responsibility, in Iraq, actually is?
