Did democrats support slavery?

Yes, very actively before and during the Civil War. After the war of course there was no slavery to support, but the Dixiecrats were solidly against equal rights for former slaves.

Maybe it was Dem guilt that made them do a complete 360.
Now they've gone to the other extreme and can't give enough welfare benefits to them.

Does this need explaining again? *SHEESH* Again equating the parties with what they were during the slavery and Jim Crow Era's. Things have changed...in case you didn't recognize.

How about this...don't worry about why we (speaking as a black man) vote for who we do. Worry about your own vote and we'll worry about ours. As if you're owed an explanation for our voting patterns. The arrogance...i tell ya!

Now it is simply easier to do than to think critically about how the Dem party has sold them down the river.

What will be amusing to see is when the Dems abandon pandering to black voters(like the Repubs have done to gun owners and those opposed t abortion) and concentrate upon the new minority-Hispanics.

Nothing has changed except minorities joined the party that discouraged them

Try doing a search. There have been more than enough threads on this issue in the last two years for you to get an answer with the rest of us having to re-repost our responses.

OH PLEASE. In the year 2010, DEMS support the rights of minorities and ALL Americans. Not just "conservatives".

LOL...this post is a laffer.

Your first sentence assumes that a majority of voting Americans think critically before they vote. More specifically, you mean WHITE AMERICANS think critically before they vote....which is TOTAL B.S.! But moving on, the black vote is the business of black voters. If the Dems have sold us down the river (and judging from my own life, i don't see how), i don't see why that's anyone elses problem. If the Repubs can do better, they should make a case. And apparently, most other minority groups seem to think so too.

I also fail to see what's so potentially "amusing" about the Dems abandoning black voters? That's funny? The Dems aren't capable of concentrating on getting the black AND Hispanic vote? That's strange...since they seem to be doing a pretty good job of it up to now. Hell, they aint doin' too bad with Jews, Asians, Indians, or Arabs either. Not to mention the goo-gobs of white folks that voted Dem in the last Prez election.

Apparently, you forgot about the page in the history book where a crap-ton of racist Democrats left the Democratic party because it stopped being in favour of Jim Crow. also the page in the history book where Republican president Nixon decided that it was good for the future of his party to assimilate these voters by all means necessary.

Because when a party is made up of special interest groups, those in power will decide which group will be essentially abandoned to concentrate on the more important group.

In the Repub camp, gun owners, abortion opponents are given some lip service but basically ignored, the reason being that who else will they vote for?

Same applies to the Dems, they know certain groups have little choice(or think there is little choice) and so while giving lip service to those groups, ignore them in reality.
