We all know it. Our Federal, State and local governments waste more tax dollars than is put to good use.

We could probably get a good laugh with tears, with some of the waste.

What are some of the bogus wasteful, or overlapping things our Government puts us through.

Here in Austin, they spend millions, if not billions yearly on artwork all over town. We are in debt and did not have our annual "Trail of Lights" Christmas festival. That has been a very long Austin Tradition at the Holidays.

How many overlapping federal agencies are there, that look into our national security?

We actually have multiple Dept of Defense organizations doing similar jobs. Core problem is that the OSD, Army, Navy and Air Force are separate organizations, and not funded under a single DoD appropriation.

Here is a link to a site called, expectmore.gov that rates all government programs on a scale of 0 - 100 depending how well they are working or not in regards to how much money the government pours into them and what is gotten out of them. For example, a program called something like, "Ready to Learn T.V.," which gets $24 million scored a very low 8. Another program within WIC that provides money to WIC participants for free produce at roadside stands scored zero! I sure hope these are all given a long hard look and overhaul when the new GOP's come on board next month...but I'm not holding my breath.

ExpectMore.gov: Not Performing Programs

I don't think this is an accurate statement. Can you substantiate your accusation that government wastes at least 51% of your tax dollars while only putting 49% or less to good use?

How do you come to this conclusion?

?
So, it depends on how you define "waste."

DEA and ATF are almost useless. Drugs should be legal, along with alcohol and tobacco. ATF only does paperwork that keeps the good guys filling out red tape forms. They are useless, so we don't need ATF at all.

FEMA is almost a total waste.

Have you ever gotten close to a government operation? They are all wasteful. I have a good friend that works for the military. He works about 1 hour per day and the rest is total wasted time.

Then look at the post office.......

The waste is rampant and growing.

51% waste is being very generous.

Not surprisingly, many of these are aimed at helping the poor:

ExpectMore.gov: Even Start

ExpectMore.gov: Federal Perkins Loans

ExpectMore.gov: TRIO Upward Bound

ExpectMore.gov: Health Professions

ExpectMore.gov: Healthy Community Access Program

ExpectMore.gov: State Planning Grant Program

ExpectMore.gov: Community Development Block Grant (Formula)

ExpectMore.gov: HOPE VI (Severely Distressed Public Housing)

ExpectMore.gov: Project-Based Rental Assistance

ExpectMore.gov: Senior Community Service Employment Program

ExpectMore.gov: Trade Adjustment Assistance

ExpectMore.gov: Workforce Investment Act - Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers

ExpectMore.gov: Internal Revenue Service Earned Income Tax Credit Compliance

There was only a handful of programs that I did not link here, which means that the vast majority of these ineffective programs are those geared toward the poor.

Side note: I thought it was interesting that Amtrak was listed as well. And then the Feds want to throw money at HSR projects.
