If the world is such a problem and will continue to be hosed for some time (probably forever), why do people continue to have so many kids?
I mean, people talk about expense, poor education, lack of jobs, etc. They want handouts and tax breaks simply for breeding and I seriously can't understand what that's about.
The world will not get better, there will be water wars (World Bank forces countries to sell water rights), increasing poverty, continued degredation of our standard of living, inceased cost of education, stagnant wages... What kind of jobs will you have? Service jobs, there's little manufacturing in the US.
Why continue to bring children into the world with this as the future?
The welfare class gets paid to do so. More children = more government-provided freebie benefits and entitlements.
So, would you suggest that we stop procreating altogether? For some of us it's too late for that. I've fathered one child, will never father another, but that doesn't make my concerns any less.

If people can't envision reality when family planning (or most likely not planning) and realize the expense and the future in store for them, perhaps they shouldn't be breeding at all.

Yeah, and how many executives, business owners, and others with a better than average income had a house full of kids when they thought the good times would never end, now find themselves on the wrong side of the American dream? Are we really as doomed as it seems? I can't help but retain a dose of optimism. Gotta get up in the morning, you know?

You do realize that some people actually plan to have additional children because that increases the level and amount of government-provided benefits and entitlements they get, right?
It's no expense to them, and they're not worried at all about their children's future because they naturally assume the government will provide for their children just as the government has provided for them.

Optimism never hurts, but reality is a better place to live.
There was a book in the early 1970s called The Population Bomb. It changed my life.

What about energy concerns? Potable water? Housing? Employment?
People really need to look at these things before producing mini-mes.
If you have a houseful of kids, you're probably not living within your means.
You probably haven't lived within your means if you've had a houseful of kids anytime since the 70s.

People have been spewing this nonsense for 5 thousand years. Yet, things keep getting better.
Does it worry you? Do you really believe that it will improve? An economy that's as bad as it's been in decades, less and less opportunity even for college graduates, a political system in Washington, D.C. that's unresponsive to our needs let alone the needs and desires of our children? When I grew up in the '70's, the future was there if you were willing to work for it. I read so many accounts of despondent teens and young adults and my first reaction is, 'Of course! Look at the world we're leaving them..'
Does anybody really believe that our kids have as much to look forward to as we did? Maybe the real question is, with such gridlock, corruption in our political system, can we really hope for significant change in time for our children?
What do you mean by the world we are leaving "our children"?
WE are going to experience that "world" firsthand long before our children have to deal with it. I think the children will already be accustomed to the "third world" lifestyle by the time they are adults. The way we grew up will just be a "story" people talk about.
