Long ago our States were represented in Washington D.C.
The States interests were debated on the floor of the Senate.
You hear Senator Reid in the last 4 years, and it is the people, the people, the people. Nothing about representing the States in which they were elected from.

Senators appointed by the States legislature, represented the States interest.

1913, under very Progressive Woodrow Wilson, the 17th Amendment was ratified.

The end of States having more power than our central government.

States powers have been grabbed and gobbled up, ever since.

Things passed today and since 1913, would have never made it passed a States appointed Senate vote.

Is it time to repeal the 17th amendment? Special interest now buy both House & Senate with the States left to die.

and that is the problem we have with the entire (both houses) congress

the house of reps are supposed to be officials REPRESENTIVE the PEOPLE of a PETICULAR DISTRICT, and of ALL voters within that district, no just the ones from a peticular party

the house of the senate, is supposed to be representatives of the state, and represent the state, its governor, and its mayors..not the individual people

It has left the States that are suppose to be pretty independent and sovereign, with no say in the control that has increased rapidly over the last 100 years.

I like voting for senators. I think having senators appointed by a single individual is an open invitation to greater corruption.

That ended in 1789 when the Constitution was ratified. If the states wanted to retain more power than the federal government, they should have stuck with the Articles of Confederation because that was the ONLY time that the states had more power than the federal government.

Never heard of the Civil War, I take it.

If you think that the 17th Amendment is a bad thing and that Senators should be chosen by states, move to Canada. The Senators are selected by the provinces just like US Senators used to be elected by states.

When the 17th Amendment was passed it was supported by both major parties.

I agree. I don't like the fact that the Senate is now a smaller version of the House. They have to worry about rabble-rousers in their states, which means they have less freedom to make decisions based on principles.
