Faced with growing budget deficits and restive taxpayers, elected officials from Maine to Alabama, Ohio to Arizona, are pushing new legislation to limit the power of labor unions, particularly those representing government workers, in collective bargaining and politics.
Public sector pensions and benefits should be comparable to the private sector.
I agree with this. I do think the unions have become too powerful, greedy and protectionist.
For a long time government jobs offered lower salaries, but a more attractive benefits package. Now I think the benefits remain superior to the private sector while salaries have reached a point of parity.
On the other hand, compared to some segments of the private sector (medicine, finance) the private center pays ridiculously, exponentially better than any public sector job.
Never cared for the idea of a "Government Workers Union".
The Gov't is a monoply armed with badges, laws and guns.
It's not like we can take our business elsewhere if they do a crappy job or, no job at all in many cases.
Very true!
This is such good news and I hope the momentum keeps moving forward. I am 100% against all unions and feel they are very destructive. I hope my state joins the band wagon and I know I will contribute any help needed.
