"According to a National Journal analysis of previously unpublished exit-poll data provided by Edison Research:

The new data show that white voters not only strongly preferred Republican House and Senate candidates but also registered deep disappointment with President Obama’s performance, hostility toward the cornerstones of the current Democratic agenda, and widespread skepticism about the expansive role for Washington embedded in the party’s priorities. On each of those questions, minority voters expressed almost exactly the opposite view from whites."

NationalJournal.com - White Flight - Friday, January 7, 2011

This very interesting 5 page article also addresses the college educated:

"Compared with 2008, Democrats lost ground among college-educated whites as well, but they maintained more support in this group than among blue-collar whites. Democratic Senate candidates won at least half of the votes of college-educated whites in 10 races and at least 45 percent in two others. Almost all of those states are along the East or West coasts or in the Upper Midwest, the regions that have been the foundation of the Democrats’ Electoral College map since Bill Clinton’s time. In heartland states such as Arkansas, Missouri, Ohio, and even Illinois, Democratic support cratered among college-educated whites."

There's a huge thread about this on DailyKos. As predicted, they're calling them racists.

How dare those white people leave the party that constantly demonizes them.

White males in particular are fools if the vote Dem. Most whites who vote Republican don't have a racist bone in their body, it's the Democrats who are racist against them. i.e affirmative action

Good riddance. Of the entire American demographic the category called "college educated prosperous white males" is the most rapidly decreasing. On a national level the Democrats need not worry about a declining segment in lower populated states. The important group is the US born children of recent immigrants. This is the most rapidly growing portion of the populous. These people are smart enough to realize who will help them become prosperous. That is NOT the Republicans. I suspect may of the defecting Dems went to the Tea Party instead of the GOP.

Wonderful example of the business policy of valuing short term gains over long term advantage.

BTW – I happen to be a relatively prosperous white college educated male. I only vote Democratic because the Republicans are inimical to all I believe in and there is no real Populist Party available.

I have heard of sour grapes before, but this is an entire SOUR VINYARD!!!

Greg, old boy, once again you have demonstrated how confused liberal thinking is, and I for one, thank you deeply and most-sincerely.

BTW, the people who will help somebody become prosperous is that person him or herself, a concept so obviously and completely unknown to you.

Thank you, once again, for putting it on public display.

What makes you think I am not prosperous? I did not achieve sucess alone. I had a lot of help, including the GI Bill, along the way.
