The closest analogy I can think of to this debate about the WBC would be when the American Nazi Party wanted to march and demonstrate in Skokie, Illinois (a pre-dominantly Jewish city).

As vile as that situation was...... and just as hateful, it was ruled that the Nazis did have the right to do so.

Only a deal to allow them to demonstrate elsewhere averted their plans.

...........................

This is the right thing to do. It does not ban free speech.

It stops protests at a sacred, PRIVATE function......funerals.

This should be the law of the land.

THANKFULLY . . .

I have a feeling there would have been more problems if they did protest.

Phelps-Roper says the group will picket the funeral Friday for U.S. District Judge John Roll and at the intersection where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and others were shot.

I think it's time that group is really shut down.

No more press or national attention.

I don't give a damn what they do or don't do, and nobody else should care either.

What the hell kinda "church" pickets funerals anyhow?

Self righteous bullsh....

Enough already.

And this article provides proof that they only do these things for publicity -

Phelps-Roper was interviewed Tuesday by a station in Toronto, Canada, and is scheduled to be on a morning talk show Saturday. She says Westboro Baptist Church decided not to picket in exchange for the airtime.
