'Band of Brothers' inspiration dies at age 92 | Washington Examiner (http://washingtonexaminer.com/entertainment/music/2011/01/band-brothers-inspiration-dies-age-92 - broken link)
Great mini-series. If half of what the series attributes to him is real he was a great man.
From what I understand, Winters' stuff is mostly true because the information they used from interviews with him weren't based on here say. Folks like Pvt. Webb, Doc Eugene (part 6 was based mostly off his story) and others who died well before the series took place would be more questionable.
BTW, the guy from part 3 who was shot in the neck and supposedly died in 1948 did not happen. Forget his name (oh yeah, it was Blithe), but he lived for a couple of decades and was not wounded as the series depicted.
RIP. We lose so many members of our "greatest generation" every day. Please help support the honor flights in your area that make it possible for these veterans to see the WWII memorial, asap!
Dick Winters was a great man... in a generation of great men. His humility was characteristic of the breed. They were ordinary men, most of them mere kids, who woke up one day to find their nation threatened and simply went and did their duty. None of them considered themselves special. None of them considered themselves particularly heroic.
They simply did what they thought they were expected to do.
