It would be the same if you carried the fire extinguisher wherever you went. In the home it would be prudent, if you carried it everywhere or had twenty in your home people would think that you might be a nutjob.
I'll give you that one. It would be overkill to carry my fire extinguisher while out walking the dog. On the other hand, this guy didn't expect to be shot while out walking his dog but it happened - Memphis man shot while walking dog - WMC-TV 5 - Memphis, TN . The only two break-ins in this neighborhood have happened in the afternoon. Since I work at home, I carry at home. Basically, I carry when I'm wearing pants with a belt. When I get dressed, it's wallet in the back pocket and holster on the strong side at the 4 o'clock position.
Summary - I don't carry because I live in fear. I carry because I want to be prepared.
OK, people who want to fly planes into buildings to kill people will fly planes into buildings to kill people.
Do we outlaw the planes?
Why does it take such a short time for the argument to get surreal when Conservatives are involved? On just two occasions in the 224 year history of the U.S. has anyone flown a plane into buildings with the intent to kill people... how many millions in that same span of time have been killed by handguns? I imagine if there becomes a sharp uptick in the rate of mass murders by pilots there would indeed be some response by the FAA. It would not involve the banishment of commercial aircraft but it might involve the restriction of flight lane privileges of civilian pilots as well as mental competency exams.. Are you sure you are old enough to be debating with other adults?
I don't own a fire extinguisher either. Never needed one.
I'm didn't expect you to own one. I'm very familiar with the quickness of your hands and have no doubt that you could easily extinguish even the largest blazes with only your bare hands.
Those who have a sick twisted mind, will find another way to kill, if you ban guns. A killer will use another method, but when your sick and twisted, and have a demented soul, one way or another they are going to kill. Ban guns, they will find a new weapon of choice, Ban guns, and only the criminals, and those in prision, will have no problem finding them.

Not that I would use my hands, but there are other ways of extinguishing a fire. Unless it's an chemical or electrical fire, water is generally sufficient, and in ready supply--and I didn't have to spend anything extra.
But, then again, I've never HAD a fire, and I don't expect to ever have a fire, so why would I need a fire extinguisher?

The four police officers murdered en masse in the Seattle coffee shop were about as prepared as anyone could be for life in a big bad city... face it, you carry because it makes you feel good. If, because you are boffing the baby-sitter and you think your old lady doesn't know but she does and sets you up for a hit, the assasin will no doubt be informed as to which is your 'strong side'. No matter... Kennedy was shot from hundreds of feet away... kind of makes the issue of a "strong side" moot. For that matter... you show me the person who can kill with a knife at that distance... ... Houdini? Could he kill six people and grieveously injure a dozen more in the space of several seconds?
