You don't need a gun to protect your house. That's what the police are for, you know?
LOL...
So as the perp is smashing down your door...hmmm how long till the police come and save you? I'll take my chances with my gun and call the police after its over!

As for the O.P.....I'lll own what ever gun I feel like.
BTW house robbers love dogs (say the police) robbers who are scared by dogs rob cars and such.
Better your car than your body & home! Not that a robber could find my car anyway, since I live in an apartment with parking 1/2 block away. LOL
To be perfectly honest, I did at one time consider purchasing a gun... but I have too many reservations, and something like that shouldn't be entered into lightly. So for now, Rudy the 40lb mutt will have to do - and my next dog will likely be a German Shepherd or Rottweiler.
LOL...

If the perp is smashing down my door while I'm awake, I'll wait off to the side and nail them when they come in. With my fists, not a gun.
One of the times the house was broken into, our dog at the time( a mix-part pitbull probably from the shape of her head) was IN the house.
Yikes. When the incident I mentioned happened, we had a dog door leading to the back yard... the second my dog (Rudy) heard a scratching on the fence, he FLEW through that door & charged the fence. All I heard next was a thump followed by "oh crap!" and footsteps running away. Rudy didn't leave that fence for the rest of the night, standing guard like the good protector he is. That's my boy!
I sure will. I don't need a weapon, especially with the element of surprise.
