...Or are they, generally speaking, ignorant about what goes on in Washington, D.C.?

No, most of the people I try to engage in any political talk of any kind don't seem to know what is going on at a local, state or federal level much less in the world. Not that they are bad people, I think people are just generally very busy with the families and jobs now days and they don't have the time. So they tune out.

Most of my friends don't care. Truthfully, i don't really care that much either. When i'm not online, i generally avoid all political discussions unless someone says something out of line.

Most people are stupid,willfully so.

They are more interested in the latest gossip or sports score than their own country.

I don't have any friends, and I don't speak to the other two groups.

So I have no idea.

Most of my friends and family are very interested in politics and care enough to take the time to educate themselves as much as possible as to what is going on.

Honestly, I have disregarded and shunned potential friendships based on politics. There was a very nice woman I met who happened to be president of this city's republican club and I just had to bow out. I did not want to invest time in what would have become an eventual problem.

Needless to say, living in a conservative state, I have few friends.

I know what you mean. I've met some nice people, but if they yammer on about politics, i drop'em like a hot potato. Don't want to discuss that stuff with friends or family.

I live in a conservative state too...in a conservative city. So far, i've found plenty of apolitical or indifferent friends. Thank goodness. I've also banned political talk radio in the office. Since doing that, the political talk in the office has dropped significantly.
