China carried out the first flight test of an advanced stealth fighter as visiting Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates raised questions about the jet during a meeting in Beijing with China's president.
Mr. Gates said the flight test led him to "directly" question Chinese President Hu Jintao about the timing. "And he said that the test had absolutely nothing to do with my visit and had been a preplanned test, and that's where we left it," Mr. Gates told reporters after the meeting.
The test flight appeared to be a political message from the Chinese military directly meant for the defense secretary.
That's "in your face" stuff to invite the Defense Sec. to show them their stealth bomber.
Who cares. Let them build all the fighters they want.
The point is that Gates didn't have a clue they had that technology and the Chinese made a point of unveiling it and doing their initial test flight while he was in country.
"Face" is extrememly important in Asian countries. This was their way of making certain the USA "lost face" (a.k.a. was humiliated).
If it doesn't concern you that the Secretary of Defense got caught with his "pants down", so to speak, on this Chinese technology then you really have no clue.
China is striving for and becoming largely successful at:
Economic superiority
Financial stability
Working to approach military superiority

Thanks Bill Clinton.
Slick Willie, huh?
So what did Bush do to reverse the damage done by 'ol Clinton?
Just googled the figures. Chinese military budget is 77.3 billion dollars. that's for 1.2 billion people. Our military budget is 1.3 trillion for 300 million people. Think about it.

It does not cost as much for labor over in China... remember?
Also, the slave trade is rather large in China.
Compete with that!

Yeah right. The Chinese are going to build superior military systems using uneducated workers who make 3.50 a day. Ha, Ha, Ha.
