Nobody ever gives up power or money. There is no such thing as "temporary".

Tell that to the IL legislature who just passed that whopper of a "temporary" tax hike.

Why didn't the dems kill it?
I'm curious as to their actual reasons on why they have no backbone on this issue. I already know the repubs are military nannies.

I wrote my Master's thesis (culminating paper, as we called it) on the USA PATRIOT Act and its impact on public libraries... and yes, I had to write it with the proper capitalization for 30+ pages, LOL. Needless to say, I am NOT happy about this extension.

Did you vote for a politician that supports extending it/voted to extend it?

Will this influence your voting in the future?

I'll wager the majority of people in the US don't even know that it got extended under Obama and more parts coming up for extension now.

If it's not on the front page of MSM or the top headline on TV news they'll never know.
For many..ignorance is bliss. And that's the way politicians want it.

Not knowingly... as Obama originally said he didn't support it, and then seemed to change his tune.

It won't be a deciding factor, no, since there are much bigger issues to consider - it's something I have a vested interest in, but not the MOST important issue IMO.

FYI: As I mentioned earlier, in my Master's program, we did what was called a "culminating paper" rather than a traditional thesis... for this we were given (if memory serves) eight topics to choose from, and had to respond to two of them. We didn't have the greatest choices in my final term, so I picked the Patriot Act mostly because it was a hot-button topic - and therefore I'd have tons of resources to choose from. I didn't know much about it prior to then, but it turned out to be a rather interesting topic.
