I've owned many hybrids for years. They make great commuter cars if you live in a big city with lots of stop & go traffic. I average 54mpg in my Prius and only fill up once a month. On the weekends I rock the muscle cars. 70 GTO Judge and a 70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6.

nothing will replace the genie, it's not going to happen.!!! we must adapt to higher energy prices they are here to stay, and will fluxuate up and down over the next decade. but the general trend will be up. unemployment and the 500.000 products made with a finite resource will rise in it's wake.. if you think the road is rough now???>> just wait 10 more years?? then we enter a new era, where only the elite will be able to drive up the steep slopes ahead..

It is the free market that is driving gas prices higher.

I don't want the government to decide the price of gas or pick alternative energies.

I believe in human ingenuity, capitalism, and science. The market will come up with a suitable and renewable alternative.

I can't wait until oil goes up to $120 per barrel.

The free market is driving up gas prices? The free market of the Arabian peninsula maybe. If we lifted all of these inane bans on domestic oil production, THEN there would be free market of gas and only then would we see the prices actually meet the supply and demand needs.

I also believe in human ingenuity, capitalism, and science. I also believe the free market will come up with better, cheaper, and more technologically advanced methods of energy. The issue is that it's not there yet but it will be. Making Americans suffer from ridiciously high gas prices that are artificially inflated by the monopoly OPEC is NOT the way to move away from oil.

Are you serious? Not with our fickle populace and politicians.

Try putting up a windfarm, nuke plant or hydro-electric plant anywhere close to where some animal may eat, breed or sh*t and you'll have some special interest appeal to a Federal judge shut it down.

No, but it is a way to weaken the US on the world stage.

Guess that depends on what you mean but alternative fossil fuel production like coal to liquid fuels would far cheaper than anything you have in mind. As it stands now it would be cheaper than conventional oil....

America will have less influence on the world. Absolutely nothing a Democrat or Republican can do about it. Deal with it!

Personally, I'm looking forward to it as we start taking care of business at home and exhaust our reserves normally slated for foreign experiments.

Its mining, but things can be done to minimize the effects. However, when mines fail, it doesn't destroy economies that produce the same amount of money as the GDP of Texas.

We have one oil rig mistake, oops.....

And there isn't really another choice. Wind is at least 20 years out, solar probably 30, and anything on top of that, who knows. And thats with significant government investment.

Oil shale is here, now, and can be used. We'd start keeping some of that 700 billion a year we spend on foreign oil here in the United States, making jobs to extract it and refine it, here at home, American jobs. That would benefit the economy by driving unemployment back, keeping more money in our economy, which gives us more money to invest to find renewables like wind and solar and make the feasible.
