I choose my friends based on their character. Their political leanings are a part of that character.
I wouldn't be friends with anyone who advocated murder or marrying sheep, for instance. So hypothetically, if a person associates themselves with a political party that does, I do not want anything to do with them.
Are you saying that because a person affiliates himself with a political party that they embrace ALL the principles of that party??
I choose my friends for both reasons but both are inextricably linked. I would find it to be an unforgivable character flaw in a friend if they thought that our rights were granted from a government (people) and not from God. Communists and Socialist believe that people get their rights from government which by the way makes it very convenient and legal for them to take them away anytime they feel the people are getting out of line. I could not accept someone as a friend who buy ideology, it goes against everything I believe politically and spiritually.
People are defined by those that lead them, the 'truth' they believe, the way they were raised as children and the all truth exposing 'National Enquirer' and 'Star' at the checkout stand.
