Did they know Loughner would be attending? Did they even have any reasonable suspicion he might be attending? Since we still don't have any specifics to debate here, we have no way of assessing whether or not opportunities were lost or not taken advantage of. Nor is there any evidence to suggest that anyone who may have had such an opportunity is blaming anyone but the shooter for the shooting. What actions, specifically, within the confines of the law, would you have had the school take that they did not?
Why should a drug arrest be grounds for even assessing his mental status, let alone doing anything that would have prevented this event?
"On and on" what? I understand there may be real examples out there, but they have yet to be provided anywhere in this thread. So far, all this is is a thread full of, "Yes they coulds," "No they couldn'ts" going back and forth.
Would someone, anyone, like to provide some specific examples to actually discuss?
The school should have called the police and had a protective order of some kind to protect the teachers and students who were afraid of him. There should have a been some kind of police report made then so if he went to stalking someone or trying to get back at someone because he was kicked out, there would have been some protection of the innocent.
A drug arrest is another opportunity to look at priors. Often someone gets charges dropped AFTER checking for other events and actions. If it's one drug arrest but the suspect is in school, holding down a job, negative drug test and has a clean history, then dropping the charges makes sense.
Obviously there's a lot coming out about him now, why didn't they discover any of these things when he made a death threat or was arrested with drugs? At least the school expulsion should have been a red flag.
Even if he had been taken to a mental health facility as a "danger to self or others" and the facility had submitted the paperwork to ban him, the state of Arizona hasn't prcessed any bans since Frau Brewer has been Governor. In Arizona mental illness does not keep you from buying guns
Looks like the Pima County Sheriff Department had legal authority to take Mr. Loughner in at any time after he made his first death threat to have him evaluated but simply chose to not do that.
Makes you wonder why they dropped the drug charges. He was arrested but then nothing.

It's doubtful we missed them, however, without CITES to those specific actions the school did take, and what legal remedies were at their disposal that they didn't take, we have nothing here but a bunch of hand-flailing.
