It is pointless to argue with the willfully ignorant,it achieves nothing.

Even a conservative can get it wrong once in awhile, just as a lib can occasionally get it right. I once read a letter to editor of a local left wing rag. Written by a liberal college professor. Said he owned no guns but was a life member of NRA. Didn't even like guns. But he didn't like the idea of police & military having them if the average citizen could not.

Of course it is a difficult task with the national redneck association lobby.
I am no fan of rednecks. I grew up around a lot of them, the old style redneck with axle grease in his hair, white socks and black loafers. You have the idea that these are the gun owners in America. They were and are, but along with many others.

If you hate guns, you don't have to have one. If other people having them is so frightening to you, Washington, DC has the strictest gun control in the nation, last check. Move there and see how safe you feel. If that is not good enough, move to Great Britain and walk the streets of London to your heart's content.

The Marine Corps is a hard way to make a living. It would have been a lot easier to have joined the Air Force. They have much better food.
I live in North Carolina, home of several military bases. While I have high regard for the military, I must point out that even a military guy can be a loon. James Burmeister, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, was an extreme racist. He had a few beers one night & went to town with his M 16. He found a spot and waited for a target. He saw a Black couple walking down the street and killed them. I don't recall names, but similar incidents have occurred with soldiers.

I have high regard for the police and don't want a nation without them. But we've had several bad apples in our local PD, involved in drug dealing, car theft and prostitution. One of our city cops went to a neighboring city with some other cop friends and somehow got into an argument with a cook at the restaurant they were in. He beat him in the alley. Tennessee state police stopped a family on the highway. Ordered them out of the car at gunpoint. Husband confused, trying to get answers, wife and kids scared to death. Their dog jumped out of the car and was shot by a nervous cop, in front of the family. Mistaken identity. Looking for a bank robber, similar car but robber didn't have family riding along. Now, google up New York City, Police Shootings for details on just a few of "New York's Finest" achievements. Amandou Diallo, unarmed, 4 officers fired 41 bullets into him as he reached for his wallet & ID. Omar Edwards, a NY police officer, shot by a fellow officer who mistook him for a criminal. Timothy Stansbury, Jr., a young adult shot by a police officer as he opened a door to a rooftop.

So the idea of only police and military having guns is not so good.

I read the OP and am still shaking my head at the knee-jerk reaction to an unfortunate incident with a crazy man. He could have just as easily pulled a decent sized knife out and inflicted equal damage or even worse.

To heck with the idiot framers of the constitution, right???

But what I am still scratching my head about - what exactly does affriome mean?

You two should start your own little organization. Call Sarah Brady, Michael Bloomberg, Dianne Feinstein and some of their comrades. They can help you get started and come up with a catchy name. Here are a few suggestions; BAG, LAG, MAG, etc. You can figure out the words to insert. Maybe you can join up with others and have a float in your local parades or a table at a street festival, etc.

Militia saved the Revolution in the Battle of Kings Mountain they had been threaten by the British commander who beat every army the Continentals fielded in the south.Militia marched to meet them with fewer men and the British held the high ground when it was over the British commander was dead and that proud army he had led defeated at the hands of backwood Appalachians from Virginia.

My early family were in the militia here trained and paraded at TRACY PARK the leaders of the militia brought in ex military NCO-Officers to train the men.Mr. Kinney also purchased a howitzer so they could train with it and it is at Soldiers Lot Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth Ohio today standing guard. These men went on to fight in the MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR and the CIVIL WAR.Before they joined the ranks of the U.S. ARMY they offered their service and Allegiance to the Army.... not forced in to service.

They had on most part their own equipment as was the case during the WAR of 1812,SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR the patriotism was so great that Uncle Sam could not provide all the weapons or it was inferior to the Militia's.Militia's here had colorful names along with their own uniforms such as "the Young Mens Rifle Company" "the Scioto Greys" "the Kinney Guards" "the Gaylord Guards" "the German Light Infantry Guard" "the High School Cadets" later to the "Davis Cadets" "the Silver Guards" no one was under the age of 45 years.
Chillicothe had "the Campbell Guards". All this is from the early pioneer history of Scioto County Ohio 1796-1908 Nelson W.Evans

We undergo the knife and cut out the source of our pain and suffering. The United States Constitution and its Addendum the Bill of Rights is not imuune to having bits and pieces that history has passed by. This document is not written in stone by the finger of GOD. The Founding Fathers were not gods or demigods and would probably be the first to affriome this statement. They were men of good faith, trust and intentions and were the great comprimisers. How many of the great issues of the day were settled over a pint of Ale and a great man of letters retiring for an evening to get it all down on paper. I propose that the Second Ammendment of the Bill of Rights is just such a piece of constitutional anacronysm. It very likely serves no useful purpose! The purpose can't be to violently overthrow the US Government. We made even the mere advocacy of doing so a Federal crime in the 1950s. Do you really think the Founding Fathers intended to let citizens terminate a Presidency or a Congressman? Our stuborn refusial to control the unfettered access to firearms has cost 1 in 9 US Presidents their lives and scared the face of US history. In the same time, how many British Kings, Queens or Prime Ministers has been claimed by gunfire? It can't have anything to do with forming a well ordered militia. We have gone far beyong the day when we relied on a force of able bodied men mustered out on the town commons to protect home and hearth. Is that really practical in an age of ICBMs, Smart Bombs and unmanned drones? If this were the true purpose of the Second Ammendment we would have gun laws like the two modern states that rely on citizen militias and reservists to be the foundation of their national defense, the Israelis and the Swiss.
Like our Israeli or Swiss friends, you have a gun the authorities know who you are, where to find you and your phone number, you have to demonstrate your competence and you have to be ready to report even if the call comes at 3 am. So the only purpose the Second Ammendment and our unreasonable gun laws seem to have is to have is to provide a future Jared Loughner a way to go out in a blaze of gunfire if not the glory his twisted mind creates. Did you notice the little smile on that wild eyed face. He enjoyed it , by god he enjoyed every round he got off. It is time to chamge the Second Ammendment and our our gun laws, if not to make this a more perfect union but to ensure that the face of Jared Loughner does not become the face that the world comes to associate with America. We can do it.
Holy ****, where's the negative rep button when you need it? I'd neg rep you into oblivion if I could. Of all the garbage I've read on internet forums, this is definitely some of the most mindless drivel I've ever seen spewed.

I would rep you again if I could. All great examples of how the police/military are just as fallible as anyone else. The gun-grabbers refuse to accept the mountains of empirical evidence, not to mention simple logic, that supports a well armed citizenry.

I currently live in Australia (Disclaimer: Not Australian) and the other day in Melbourne a group of Pacific Islander gang members attacked an African immigrant in a train station, the African immigrant pulled out knife and stabbed one of his attackers (who later fell onto the tracks and was hit by a train and killed). The African immigrant is currently in hospital from the attack.

The media and the police have been blaming the man who was attacked by the gang for his response and he has been charged with murder. One police officer even stated the fact that he was carrying a weapon proves that he was a violent man. That statement made me wonder if he applies that logic to the police. The fact that he had the knife may have very well saved his life and the cops have it out for him for that fact.
