The 2010 SAT college entrance test results are in. Historically, back in the day when I went to MIT, the common wisdom was that Asians scored better in math, but were disadvantaged because of the verbal scores.

They will be the new American Elite

More than anything else it has to do with culture. Most Asian cultures place a higher value on education than modern American culture. In Asian culture great pride in taken by the ENTIRE FAMILY if a family member is exceptionally successful. This may or may not be true in other cultures. On the hand economic failure is looked upon as a failure and disgrace to the family.

On the other hand look at mainstream America, MTV's Sixteen and Pregnant, the mindless obession on material consumption etc. The reality is mainstream American kids are simply not taught to value academic achievement or education in the same way that children in Asian cultures are.

Asians aren't "superior" to white people. No race is "superior" to another.

Depends on your definition of superiority. Academically speaking, Asians are superior to all other tested groups. That's not really debatable.

You can debate the hows/whys the discrepancy exists and whether or not it is some genetic propensity towards higher intelligence or cultural differences that lead to academic success at higher rates than those seen in other groups.

Asian Americans are #1 on the SAT |Why are they superior to the white americans (education, income, success) ?

Because the SAT is culturally biased. Ask any leftist. He or she will agree.

One thing I tend to respect about Asian culture is their high emphasis on education and success. In modern American culture we don't preach a dedication to success or learning. Americans are by and large lazy and decadent. In various Asian cultures children are expected to grow up quicker, study hard, and succeed. Unfortunately most Americans don't follow that same method.

While Asians have the qualities you suggested it also comes with it's own liabilites. In Asian cultures where high academic and career achievment is stressed it comes at the cost of having social skills and having a balanced personal life.

Also many Asian cultures also strive for conformity. This hampers their ability in terms of creativity and innovations. I just had a phone conversaton this morning with a person who works for a Korean university. He voiced the concern that many students don't develop critical thinking and creative schools because education is mainly seen as a way to get a job.

It's the culture and home values that focus on achievement, education and hard work. But, there are plenty of kids from other races that have the same values at home.

There is still a strong current of that in Jewish culture as well, which might explain why Jews are..3%? of the population, and hold something like 30% of professional jobs (doctors, lawyers, business leaders, etc.). Everyone knows the joke that a Jewish mother wants to able to say, "This is my son Saul, the doctor!"

Of course, this is all cultural stereotype, but I think it rings true. Anyone of any race that has emphasized education and achievement at home will succeed.

I don't care about Asians-Americans being number one in the SATs. I only care that Asian Americans get royally screwed by the ever changing definition of what's considered "an under-represenated" minority. Asians get discriminated because of this "under represented bullcrap" universities/grad schools use to "diversify their student body"

To me Asians make up 3% of the US pop. They are a minority. Period. Story ends there. Don't use this crap that Since Asians make up like 10% of med schools, they aren't minorities. If that's the case, than Asians should be awarded basketball scholarship being they are "under represented" in NCAA college basketball.

Of course, those will argue that athletics scholarships is a different kind of talent. But talent/academics/sports should all be treated the same if we are talking about diversity.
