There was a Wall Street Journal article about this very thing on January 8. Here it is.

Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior - WSJ.com

Chinese parents do not allow their children to go to a sleep over, play video games, have a play date, watch TV and more. American parents are okay with their children receiving a "B." Not so for Chinese parents.

That sounds absolutely terrible to me. How are those children suppose to learn how to connect with other people if their noses are always stuck in a book?

Standardized multiple choice test results does not prove anything; except how to be a very good automaton. I think we know that by now.

Here is a list of the greatest inventors and inventions. Most of the inventors have European last names: List of inventors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't see anybody Asian or Asian-American in the greatest artists of all time. Do you?

Now what exactly have Asian-Americans done that have been so fantastic? Nothing really. Asians have contributed by passing rigorous math tests and multiple choice exams. So what?

You can debate the hows/whys the discrepancy exists and whether or not it is some genetic propensity towards higher intelligence or cultural differences that lead to academic success at higher rates than those seen in other groups.

On the hand economic failure is looked upon as a failure and disgrace to the family.

On the other hand look at mainstream America, MTV's Sixteen and Pregnant, the mindless obession on material consumption etc. The reality is mainstream American kids are simply not taught to value academic achievement or education in the same way that children in Asian cultures are.
Ouch! (but I feel very true!)

Because they work harder and are EXPECTED to do better.

Oh please. This has nothing to do with "working harder," as if that is something to be proud of, we should all "work smarter." Standardized testing doesn't prove much. They are great automatons but that's it. Testing is done to stratify people into two categories i.e., good automaton versus bad automaton.

It proves that Asians are better at taking standardized tests.

They do better in education, income and family structure.

But that, of course, is a foreign concept to liberals.
