Everyone who keeps talking about "why did the law happen in the first place are right", but hindsight is 20/20, why did Republicans filibuster the effort to fix it after the fact?
Sheesh, the 1099 requirement would have been totally stupid even with the higher number in it. The right thing to do is totally eliminate it, and thank goodness the Republicans and a few Dems held firm to their position. Like some other things in Health Care Reform, the only "fix" is total elimination.

Lot's of things are put into bills that are never expected to see the light of day, so when they are later changed they can take it to their people as a "win". Built in compromise. Yet occasionally things stay, and I can only imagine specific groups of politicians giggling over that fact saying "can you believe we got this?".

Yep. Those riders can pay off politically.

Yes because making sure people don't cheat the system is just a horrible thing.....

Btw the repeal is going nowhere.

Even the IRS and the CBO acnowledge that the administrative costs of the 1099 requirement are bound to exceed any revenue benefit. This was moronic in the first place, and has a vanishingly small effect on catching cheaters.

That was at 600 dollar limits, at 5000 it is much more manageable.

And that is why the change from $600 to $5,000 should not have been filibustered by the GOP.

The Repubs are going to hold the Dems to this.
This is what the Dems wanted so this is what they are going to get.

It's either repeal it all or repeal nothing even if they pull items out and put in other bills like they did with the 1099 part.
