Can we say tone deaf? Out of touch? Disconnected?

Obama to Push New Spending in State of the Union - WSJ.com

Quote:
President Barack Obama will call for new government spending on infrastructure, education and research in his State of the Union address Tuesday, sharpening his response to Republicans in Congress who are demanding deep budget cuts, people familiar with the speech said.

Mr. Obama will argue that the U.S., even while trying to reduce its budget deficit, must make targeted investments to foster job growth and boost U.S. competitiveness in the world economy.
Your $1 TRILLION stimulus was supposed to do that, remember?

I just finished reading another article about this.
The stimulus was "short term" to kick start.

Now he wants to invest "long term" for sustained growth.
Sounds like another bailout to states for education.

His polls numbers will likely rise a bit in the days following the speech.

Hey, as long as he does not ask for additional troops or more money for wars, etc, I don't mind this at all. If it's for Americans at home, I'm all for it. Think of us as an "investment."

Maybe I and other taxpayers want to choose where we invest instead of our children and granchildren being saddled with Obama's bad choices. It is one thinng if I choose to buy treasuries , state or municiple bonds. It is quite another when the government just reaches thier hand in my pocket, or that of the next generation, and takes it as it pleases.

He can forget about any new spending. Not going to happen. Not at all what the American people want.

Im no Obamapologist. Actually I am a card carrying member of the Republican party...or was that is, when I heard from the Budget Director for Reagan say on television...

When Reagan was in office we had a $1 Trillion debt. Since then Clinton was the only president to have a surplus AND to put us on track to erase our debt. When Bush entered office he destroyed that opportunity. Since then we have had 20 years of Republican Rule and 8 of Clinton (he was not counting Obama) and in that time (1980-2008) the debt has run up to $10 trillion, with the democrat running a surplus for a couple of years and putting us on track to be in the black. The idea of the Republican cutting taxes and lowering spending was a myth. They did neither. At least the Dems won't lie to you, they will tell you they will raise taxes on the wealthy and spend on social programs. The number #1 expenditure is the military, spending more money on a military to fight wars that we haven't fought. We do more with covert operations which is much cheaper and more effective. We also have opened the door economically for China to walk into Afghanistan and Iraq. They have already set up corporations in both countries.

Am I missing something? Ok, taking Obama out of it, is it not true the debt has run up from $1 trillion under Reagan to $10 trillion when Bush left office? We have not improved our infastructure (the power grid is a mess, highways clogged, etc.) or our education system, or social programs. SO what did we spend $9 trillion on from 1980-2008?
