It's easy to cherry pick cities, but it's a better reflection of the state's performance to view it as a whole. The poorest and least educated states are all the most republican, while the most successful and rich are democratic.

Default Telling story

Except for Miami and El Paso all these places are where the big move by the corporatists to find worldwide slave wages has gutted the major industries of all those cities. No more manufacturing base no more income. Looks to me more like the corporatst refusing to pay living wages as negotiated by unions. They have moved too the third world for cheap labor ie China, Vietnam, Alabama and South Carolina.

Nothing new to see here folks move along until you regain control of your government.

I also found this article particularly interesting, considering how most uber-conservatives feel about California: California Dominates America?s Wealthiest Cities

This is an interesting list Janelle. Is there anything that tells us what races/ethnicities make up these percentages below the poverty level?

I have a guess, but I think we all know the truth.

Should say that El Paso is the only anomaly on the list. It has the 2nd lowest crime rate for any large city in the nation right under New York City, for some reason
Yes - the reason is Juarez. Count the number of El Pasoans killed in the drug cartel war over there or arrested in Juarez for kidnappings and gun running. It's like El Paso's own crime-ridden inner city.

D.C. is unique in that it is a federal city. If you only look at the "local" mayor and the non-fed rest of the city you will find D.C to be very poor.

With over 18% of the residents below the poverty level that is not a very rich city.

Municipal elections in El Paso are unaffiliated. Never been a Democratic mayor, either.
