If the NRA isn't going ballistic, then I'd have to conclude that any measures Obama proposes will be pretty mild. Besides the GOP house would have to approve anything.

Probably nothing to get your knickers in a knot over.

But why bother?

There are much more important issues to deal with.

Of course politics is all about distraction....

Distract the stupid voters from how crappy life actually is and focus on something totally unimportant.

When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. – Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), US Founding Father, drafted the Declaration of Independence, 3rd US President of the United States

This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! – Adolph Hitler, 1935, on The Weapons Act of Nazi Germany

"Waiting periods are only a step.
Registration is only a step.
The prohibition of private firearms is the goal." Janet Reno

"We're bending the law as far as we can
to ban an entirely new class of guns." Rahm Emmanuel

"A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device
to deny gun ownership to the people." Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

"If the opposition (citizen) disarms, well and good.
If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves." Josef Stalin

interesting how the liberals, fascists, nazi's, communists are the ones who want gun control....hmm

Kinda like, "We're all about deficit reduction, but keep those tax breaks for billionaires and don't touch defense spending", huh?

Obama is currently in a mode of fence straddling and appeasement. He is trying his best to please as many people as possible with his words so that he can be reelected. My bet is that he makes push for minor changes in gun laws so he can tell his far left wack job base that strict gun control is a long hard process and we have to take small steps. He will then campaign to independents saying he respects gun ownership and only wanted minor tweaks to prevent tragedies. Nothing will get through the GOP house anyway, so all he is doing is trying to appease the gun hating left.

Personally, I would love it if he would just be honest and speak from his heart and tell everyone that he wants guns banned with minor exceptions for hunters. It would be refreshing to hear him be truthful first and foremost. Second, it would never go anywhere legislatively. Third, it would make it damn near impossible for him to be reelected.

The shooting in AZ was unimportant,it is something that given the size of the nation and the number of firearms matters little except to those looking to distract stupid voters.

Talking crap in a speech got exactly nothing done....same as every other time.

It is good for distracting stupid voters too.

The shooting in AZ was not unimportant - it ended six innocent lives and wounded many people. We need to ban all firearms.
