Since the most conservative posters on this forum seem to be possessed of exceptional self-confidence and certainty on complex topics like the national dept, the economy, health care, the root causes of environmental crises, civil rights, education, which government agencies are needed, etc., I must assume they have a solid example of how thing "should" be.

I am a concrete guy, I need a case study. Can any of you provide one or more examples of a low tax, small government sovereign nation that lasted at least a decade in the last 100 years with over 5 million citizens that has a vibrant economy, a strong middle class, decent human rights, laissez-faire economics, private, efficient self-regulation of education, social, and environmental quality, a free press, and free access to assault weapons for all? I would like to see an example of where all the brilliant suggestions I hear daily on this forum demonstrate their obvious superiority.

There is only one rule: no US states. We all know they receive immense pork from the feds.

Have at it.

LOL, I can't think of one. How does the lack of one demonstrate anything other than the fact that one doesn't exist?

Are you suggesting that because all these things don't exist in one country that the individual characteristics don't work. No you couldn't be that silly, it must be something else.

Hong Kong, except for the assault weapons and soveirgn parts, but I say Hong Kong is pretty self sufficient, so that doesn't really have too much of a negative impact.

I am just wondering where all this self confidence on all these complex topics comes from. We have a pretty impressive country, and if people want to dissemble the government, tax structure, etc. that we have, I wonder if they can point to an example of where it has worked. That would ease my mind a bit. When an architect tells you that the house you live in stinks, and he can absolutely design something so much better, you naturally want to see an example.

If you have nothing to show, then a bit of humility might make it easier to swallow.

I was thinking of Hong Kong, and Singapore. They are more or city states, but still worth looking into. I know very little about either. Certainly economic powerhouses. I wonder how they stack up otherwise.

That was a bubble economy. Been there, done that.

Maybe Switzerland. I believe assault weapons are legal and obtainable there, in fact Swiss citizens receive training on how to use firearms. Better yet, they have a robust economy, are always neutral/non-interventionist, and have a freer economy than our own. Nearly 8 million people so they fit the bill.
