It isn't just Palin.

Any high profile public figure who takes extremist stands that they proudly support in the media will find themselves the targets of hateful crackpots. I wonder how much hate mail Sean Penn receives?

The bottom line is that both Palin and Penn should be able to express their views w/o threats of violence. The unfortunate truth is that a certain percent of the public will never reach adulthood, regardless of their age.
