well, this is certainly off to a great start

Approximately $33 million in credits for plug-in electric and alternative-fueled vehicles credits were erroneously claimed by at least 12,920 taxpayers through July 24, 2010. ... That means about 20% of the $163.9 million in credits claimed by taxpayers from January 1, 2010 to July 24, 2010 for plug-in electric and alternative motor vehicle credits were claimed in error.

According to TIGTA’s review, approximately 29 prisoners also received $49,926 in vehicle credits even though they were in prison all of Calendar Year 2009.

Every credit program run in the past 2 years had "errors".
Do you know how many prisoners IN JAIL got the new homebuyer credits ?
Do you know how many people got the new homebuyer credits for the SAME HOME ?

Waste and fraud..our government is too big to get anything right.

Look on the bright side - it could've been a 33% error rate!

Another reason why tax credits are a bad idea when trying to mandate people's behavior into spending their money on something you want them to buy, as opposed to something that they want to buy; the ultra-idiotic CAFE standards are also social engineering gone haywire.
