I've read lots of the Palin threads on this board with interest, and it always seems to come down to liberals and moderates making fun of her, and conservatives either 1) standing up for her, or 2) claiming that she isn't a spokesperson for the party, and only gets attention because liberals are obsessed with her.
I understand the ridicule and the support from different sides, but the thought that she's only a liberal media phenomena confuses me. If Palin really is irrelevant to the R party, then why don't they have a national leader to step in to take her place? Remember--the R's put her on the ticket for VP two years ago--that's about as high profile as it gets. She seems to be in the press commenting on something at least once a week. If she's not the spokesperson for the R party, then where are the other R voices?
My personal opinion is that she gets the national media because she's one of the only consistent voices. I think it's a leadership vacuum issue--no other strong R's pick up the slack with the media, so she floats to the top, but I could be wrong. Just curious what others think.
