No. I just don't like liars. So what if the OP found some ridiculous, biased "news" source that's just as big a liar as he is.
It would be interesting to debate whether kids should be allowed to purchase things like BB guns or Airsoft guns or pellet guns without parental consent. However, to frame the debate by saying "Hawaii wants to ban toy guns" is just plain LYING.
Yea.
Because so many adults play with toy guns.
Okay.
Here it is "reframed"....
Hawaii bans the sale of toy guns to kids under 18.
Instead of everyone throwing a hissyfit let's just say:
It would have been nice if the OP had read the article first before the thread was opened, because if they had they should have mentioned the ban was at under aged children..
But instead the OP went down the road of name calling....
I'd like to see what constitutes

Normal as in everyone who is not liberal?
I love it when people seem to think they talk for everyone else.......
SECTION 1. Chapter 709, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§709- Sale of toy guns to minors prohibited.(1) It shall be unlawful to sell, attempt to sell, or offer for sale a toy gun to a minor under eighteen years of age; provided that it shall be an affirmative defense to any prosecution that the:...
Hawaii bans the sale of toy guns to kids under 18.
Is that better?
No, you still don't have it right... READ THE ARTICLE
Quote:
The bills have been submitted to the Judiciary Committee in the House and the Commerce and Consumer Protection and the Judiciary and Labor committees in the Senate.
A hearing is set next Tuesday in the Senate Consumer Protection Committee at 9 a.m. in room 229.
As of right now there is no ban
A hearing is scheduled, now do you see the difference?
The article headline (and therefore the thread title) are a bit misleading. If the article is correct (I haven't read the text of the bills), then toy guns are not being banned at all. It will still be perfectly legal for parents to buy toy guns for their children if they feel they want to.
As near as I can tell, these bills put the job of parenting squarely on the shoulders of the parents, which is where it belongs.
One reason that I agree with the bills is that law enforcement officers are human, just like you and me. They have scant seconds in high stress situations to decide if the "weapon" being brandished by a thirteen year old boy is a real gun or just a toy. There have been enough instances of young teenagers using guns in a manner in which they were not intended to warrant a possibly deadly decision by the officer.
One doesn't have to mimic sensationalist headlines when they are misleading unless the OP really wanted to open a flame thread against liberals instead....
