Do you really think that the first time a guy gets caught doing something like this on Craigslist is the first time a guy has done something that weird? There's a good chance he resigned as fast as he can so that the media leaves him alone after a day or two.
Yup, typically when you see members of Congress resign and wonder why they are resigning over something which doesn't seem to be a big thing, quite a bit more comes out afterward. Think Eric Massa last year. Not to mention the Craigslist "dating" sites have wound up to be more along the lines of escort services and Prostitution rather than dating, who knows where this might be headed.
We won't know until more comes out, but I highly doubt he would resign (and don't think he should) over being married and having shirtless pictures on a dating site. Something more is likely going on.

In fairness, there are also the emails on the Gawker site which show that he was trying to hookup with a woman, and falsely claimed that he was divorced. That's some pretty shady crap.
But yeah, I'm sure he doesn't want the media to do any more digging. I mean, if Vitter can stay in office (and win reelection!) after further digging found out about his diaper fetish, this guy probably has some cobwebs he doesn't want anybody finding out.
