I live 3 miles from a town of less than 2,000 people.

I'd say that means "rural".

My distance from Anchorage depends upon your mode of transportation. If you are flying, then I am only about 15 miles north of Anchorage. If you are driving, then I am 50 miles from Anchorage. Boy, I wish I could fly.
