I know I am coming across as a hardnose on the issue of drugs and minors. I've explained where I am coming from -- where are you coming from?

I find the thread title to be quite...interesting (for those who get the reference).

I never found pot enticing; neither it's taste nor the overall effect.

I really have no problem with people that use pot..but...unlike alcohol, which you can enjoy moderately without getting buzzed.. pot is entirely different. You are using it exclusively to get stoned.

Pot was an acceptable drug in all levels of society for many decades until it became illegal in the 30s. I have no problem with it being legal again but, lets face it, if you intend to use it you intend to get screwed up.

Alcohol for all its "evilness" can be used as a beverage without getting you drunk. Make pot
llegal and we will watch a lot more people stoned on the roads.

But, think of it this way -- people go OUT to drink, and may or may not drink over their own limit. I guess since pot is illegal now, you can't actually go out and smoke, but I can't even classify the end result as the same. Yes, you are under the influence of a drug but it is a different kind of influence. I do not approve of those who smoke and drive, nor do I approve of those who drink and drive.

I caught my first buzz in '73, I was 29 years old. Prior to that, I had no dealings with drugs of any sort. That was 38 years ago and I'm proud to say,
that I'm still here and toking, and as a fact, I took your poll as a father with children (5), no shame here. Marijuana never threw me any curves, it was
the system of government that has kept me off guard for the bulk of my years. Today, I fear the other detractions, the Four Lokos, the smack, this
economy and a more pressing collection of misery that is slated towards our youth. Pot is the least of my worries. We don't need another Carry Nation,
we simply need an honest education. Thanks for letting me to do my part.

When I was in high school I smoked pot ALOT !!! Now I have children and choose not to, but lets face it. If it were made legal there wouldn't be much of a difference on the roads. Kids nowadays can get weed easier than they can alcohol. Pot has been proven to be "not physically addicitive" but we all know alcohol is. Also probably 8 out of every 10 people are looking to catch a buzz or looking to get totally wasted when they drink. Also if you have followed a stoned driver you'd realize that the impairment is a little different. Stoned drivers drive too slow and are overly cautious and not reckless. Legalizing it would also eliminate tons of drug dealers, you could still make it like alcohol and put a minimum age on it, you can tax it like crazy and create a HUGE income stream for our government and also a ton of new jobs. It has worked in Europe quite well too and it would also be a great export for us as well.Remember, pot is NOT cocaine, and not heroine. Face it, this is a no-brainer but politicians are afraid to sign on to it. Do you realize that this could totally turn our economy around with no negative affect at all?

Addictive personalities (not saying you -- but those saying weed leads to becoming a heroin junkie) are addictive in nature and will find SOMETHING to become addicted to.. whether it's bud, beer, World of Warcraft, being one of those stupid street racers, whatever.

You know, I heard a lot of CA drug dealers voted down CA Prop 19, in fear they would lose business.

Plus, it doesn't help when the President of the United States basically laughs the questions away (on both of his Internet SOTU Q&A sessions).
