Barbour is now refusing to take sides in the controversy over a proposal to issue Mississippi license plates to commemorate Nathan Bedford Forest, a Confederate general believed by many historians to have served as the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Why? Why can't you be opposed to this license plate? "I don't go around denouncing people," Barbour explained
Not getting involved in a debate over a license plate doesn't equal supporting a KKK leader. I think it's fair to debate whether or not he should get involved, but he hasn't expressed support for anyone.

His state wants to produce liscense plates commemorating a leader of a notorious hate group.
He is the Governor- He has to take a stance against this.
I presume the Black taxpayers of Mississippi will be paying for the manufacturing of the liscense plates.
it must be getting close to an election..liberals are dusting off their deck of race cards...
Yep, how dare anybody want the governor of a state to oppose his state's legislature from setting up a license plate that would honor notorious KKK founder and orchestrator of a Civil War massacre Nathanial Bedford Forrest! It's just a pure political ploy, obviously.

That's a very different argument from saying he has supported a KKK leader. What he has done is not voice an opinion.
To state that he will not state an opinion actually states quite a lot.

It is equally disingenous that the OP fails to acknowledge that Southerners are able to revere Gen. Forrest's military career in service to the Confederacy without similarly supporting his participation in the early KKK.
I suspect the OP hasn't even done the historical research to understand the difference between the early KKK and what it had evolved to by the time Gen. Forrest chose to dissociated himself from in his later years.
Nothing but a troll thread and a duplicate one at that.
bc42bg43, glass houses? Shall we examine Sherman's march to the sea and the rape/pillage of Southern civilians by Northern troops? I didn't think so.

Reason: spelling
Several years ago Shelby Foote, the noted Civil War historian and author, gave an interview in which he stated this belief that there are many misconceptions about Mr. Forrest, including his having been a founder of the KKK.
Anyway, since Mr. Foote is not 'utube' or 'wikipedia', he will be ignored.
The guy is from Mississippi. Forrest is a beloved figure there. He can't come out in opposition to the guy publicly.
I don't think Haley Barbour is a racist. He's just a politician.
