Here's an example, since some people don't seem to grasp it: In our restaurant, which is still very new, we decided to give one kid a raise, he's like 16 but has done a great job and learned his station quickly. We also keep him later than the other employees b/c he's a more valuable than the others. Salaried managers are the only ones who get healthcare benefits and we don't have 401ks or anything (that is industry-wide, really). If I don't like it, I am free to leave, I don't need anybody to bargain for me when I can bargain for myself or leave.
That's how it works in the private sector...why can't that be used in the public sector?
It should, but too many people want the nanny state, depend on others and get guaranteed benefits without accountibility.....good for you having a restaurant, small business owners rock...
Ha ha, funny...actually experience with several fortune 500 companies...I know to negotiate, and bring alot of value....if I were a clock watcher, worried abour running home to kids, and not wanting to take conference calls on my vacation....guess I would have to worry....
Sure there is power in numbers if my goal was to work as ann assembly line worker and never move up my lot in life....
If i were a teacher (which I did at the univ level for bit), I would know my education status brings value....and would parlay it...
its not rocket science...
That may work in Fortune 500 companies, but not so much in health care, where I have worked mostly for private companies for close to 40 years. I suspect it was similar in teaching before unions.
What do you do with your kids when it's time to pick them up and you don't want to "worry" about them? Just asking.
I'm assuming you don't live here. There is an overwhelming majority in the state congress of Repubs. We now have a Republican governor. Feingold was dethroned. The people have spoken.
Indeed, the people have spoken. The Democrats have lost. But, they are acting like little poor loser, petulant babies, who take the ball and go home when they lose. What they fail to realize is that this is not a game and there will be consequences for their immature behavior. What a ridiculous bunch of dimwit dems. I hope the people continue to speak and demand they are all recalled and monetarily fined for wasting everybody's time and resources looking for them.
Derelicts! They should all be recalled (if it's allowed in WI).
Thank you to all the elected officials across the country that are trying to solve our fiscal problems. And shame on those who have their heads up their asses.
Yes, it is allowed.
I find it interesting that Walker's Facebook page went up by over 2000 likes within a few hours today. I was one of the new likes, since before this, I never cared much for state politics.
Judging by the protests, me thinks the new Gov will be a 1 term Gov and the many repugs in the Wis. house and senate will lose their jobs at the next election.
The end of the democratic process by trying to forcefully shut down unions, and their right to collectively bargain, simply because you disapprove of their very existence. That's what he was getting at, and the Senators left the state to essentially tell the R's where they could shove it.
I think you're missing a few facts, like the one that these "contracts" between the state and unions are not "automatic". If the contract expires, the state has every right to terminate the deal.

I work in healthcare sector - medical technology, have for the last 15 yrs. for a large company. No kids, but my employees are required to get their jobs doen, the expectations, its up to them to figure it out without impacting the job...if they can't do that then they dont work here...
So no missing meetings, calling in as required....if they don't like it they are free to leave.
They aren't being cowards--this isn't about trying to hide from an unpopular vote. They're essentially telling the governor he can "shove it." That's not exactly being a chicken.
That's pure BS, they're hiding from a vote that they're PAID to cast. Nobody is trying to force them to vote for or against anything, they're just expected to vote. Being an adult is doing what you're supposed to do whether you like it or not, these idiots are acting like children.

Have you never heard of the Silent Majority? For every idiot out there waving a picture of Hitler or admitting they haven't a clue as to why their teacher dragged them there, there are hundreds at home or work just shaking their heads in disbelief and quietly going to their computers to register their approval and admiration for this new, wonderful governor, who is actually going to represent the people and not cave in to the union thugs.

If that were true the Democrats wouldn't have to run and hide because they would have the numbers to stop the vote.
