The UAW did nothing to GM without the complicitly of GM management. Why is it all the union bashers are so willing to overlook the malfeasance of management? I wonder how many would be happy if their next paycheck was let's say 15% lower than the amount they were promised because management needed to pay for mangement's past mistakes?
Or because the revenue isn't there anymore and changes need to be made ?
How many hourly workers got their hours reduced ?
And I do know professionals that got their pay reduced 15% over 2 years ago as well as company match 401K contributions ended, pensions phased out and retiree healthcare premiums shot sky high.

The private sector has been going through this for a number of years now. The public sector will have to face the same tune.

THE US HAS NO EXTRA MONEY.
The good times are over.
Welcome to 2011..the year of "Austerity measures".

So, are you telling us that despite their highly inflated salaries/perqs that mangement is required neither to make sound plans for the company's financial well-being nor to have a backbone?

Nice gig!

The continual willingness to excuse the excesses of manangement and lame attempts to place all the blame on unions/labor is just BS PR spin.

In the case of teachers..it is the government that is the "excess management". What is the excuse for government union workers when governemnt revenue is not there ?

You know, now that it has been reported that obama, OFA and the DNC are behind these protests, it will make it much easier to get it done - this is now nothing more than a political campaign, kind of like the past election, pitting the dems/obama against the GOP.

Obama and the DNC made a big mistake here by getting involved.

But they could hardly help that, as we know the union(s) are nothing more than an arm of the democrat party.

Can you post some examples of management that got those companies in precarious positions to start with are also taking those cuts? I see far too many stories of suits running comanies into the ground and walking away with multi-million $$$ packages, their inept performance be damned. And please don't try to justify those payouts because they were pre-arranged by contract.

Funny how the US seems to find the $$$ to support unnecessary wars of choice. As for the private sector, the continual excuse making for management while attributing all a company's ills to labor is no different than partisan politics, there's more than enough guilt to supply both sides of the issue for years to come.

I wonder just how poor their timing is. They could well be doing this to take our minds off what is going on in the Middle East. That means that the Red-Green Alliance could well be involved with them. Also, it appears that the Muslim Brotherhood could easily be involved with our unions of the public employees group.

Naw, this is impossible because it alludes to the kind of conspiracy thinking that Glenn Beck does. Just can't be because of that.

What is the excuse for making promises that can't be kept? Isn't part of a manager's job planning for the future?

I wonder how many of the blind supporters on this forum really know what the teachers in Madison are howling about. It seems to me that they are howling about being asked to pay some of their health insurance fees and some of their pension costs. A very small part, at that, and all they are doing is being used by the far left. Teachers? I wonder about useful idiots being used this way.
