Doesn't matter. All the more reason to keep him on his toes. Do your homework and keep sending him letters. Next year, I hope you'll be vigorously campaigning for the opposing candidate.

Just FYI - He totally supports abortion, and has been on the record many, many times in his votes and his position. He had 100% voting pro-choice. He promised Planned Parenthood in July, 2007 that, if elected President, he would pass the Freedom of Choice Act which would nullify all federal and state regulations against abortion, remove any parental notice and informed consent.

There's another you tube video of one of Obama's campaign speeches flating around where he says he teaches his daughters about moral behavior and abstinence, but, if they made a mistake, he wouldn't want them to be punished with a baby.

While he is pro-choice, he is also on the record as wanting to reduce unintended pregnancies.

Here's a link that shows his record and quotes he's made in person and in his books he's written.

Barack Obama on Abortion

Agreed about the Senate.

If it doesn't pass the senate, its dead in the water.

Planned Parenthood has been the most ineffective program we've ever seen. Unwed pregnancies are at an all time high and increasing. More babies are being born into welfare programs than ever. Food stamp rates have only grown since PP came about.

It's not working. It hasn't worked at all.

planned parenthood is effective. unplanned pregnancies are mostly a result of unplanned and unprotected sex, not because PP isn't doing their job the youth that are having planned sex are using birth control probably given to them at PP or other low cost clinic. most of PP works in the area of birth control and treating STD's

What was it you were saying?

"The reduction in teen pregnancy has clearly been one of the most important public health success stories of the past decade," said Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson in a CDC press release. "The fact that this decline in teen births is continuing represents a significant accomplishment."
U.S. Birth Rate Hits All-Time Low
In FY1994, birth rates for teens on welfare were substantially higher than those for all
other teens: 46.6 births per 1000 teens on cash grants age 15-17, compared to 27.0 per
1000 non-grant teens age 15-17; and 103.3 births per 1000 teens on cash grants age 18-
19, compared to 81.7 births per 1000 non-grant teens age 18-19.

• By FY2000, birth rates for teens on welfare were the same as, or lower than, those for all
other teens: 20.7 per 1000 teens on cash grants age 15-17, compared to 20.6 per 1000
non-grant teens age 15-17; and 58.6 births per 1000 teens on cash grants age 18-19,
compared to 68.8 per 1000 non-grant teens age 18-19.

The irony of this post is lost on you, I'd bet.

Planned Parenthood's mission is not to reduce the nation's birth rate, let alone the birth rate of the unwed. They're there to provide myriad services, including, as the name specifically states, planned PARENTHOOD.

To hear most republicans/conservatives talk about it, you'd think it was a revolving door abortion clinic. And yet, more women are actually giving birth now than they were 10 years ago.

Oh irony, sweet irony.

But even more interesting still, is the fact that you don't seem to know why the birth rate has gone up, or for whom it's gone up the most (women 20 years old and older).

1.) There is less stigma to a woman having a child outside of marriage.
2.) There is less stigma to a woman having a child on her own.
3.) THE RATE OF ABORTION IS AT AN ALL-TIME LOW.

Guess what that means? PLANNED PARENTHOOD IS WORKING!

And it's ridiculous in the extreme to blame Planned Parenthood for whether or not people go on food stamps. But even if that were true, I thought that's what you guys wanted!??!!?? All pregnancies are supposed to go to full term. In fact, by force of law if you had your way. So if that means more babies are born to poor mothers, you have no business complaining that the mothers are forced into welfare programs.

Ironic and hypocritical at the same time. Will wonders never cease.

Unwed Motherhood Increases Sharply in U.S., Report Shows - washingtonpost.com

"The number of children being born out of wedlock has risen sharply in recent years, driven primarily by women in their 20s and 30s opting to have children without getting married. . .
Ventura and other experts cite a confluence of factors, including a lessening of the social stigma associated with unmarried motherhood, an increase in couples delaying or forgoing marriage, and growing numbers of financially independent women and older and single women deciding to have children on their own after delaying childbearing. "

Unwed birth rate reaches all-time high - Health - Women's health - msnbc.com

"For a variety of reasons, it's become more acceptable for women to have babies without a husband, said Duke University's S. Philip Morgan, a leading fertility researcher. Even happy couples may be living together without getting married, experts say. Some cited a growing trend among all adult women to have children regardless of their marital status."
