I voted for Obama in 2008. I've probably voted for Republican candidates more often than Democratic candidates, at all levels of government.

We'll have to disagree on this one. IMO, if you judge them on their deeds and not their words, Repubs and Dems are far more alike then they are different.

So what is different about Obama that people don't see him as black even though that's how he identifies himself?

Like I said, I'm not trying to be rude but it seems like such a slap in the face. First you're black so we treat you like **** and now that you've accepted being black and accomplished something, we don't really consider you as being black.

Of course they will because no Democrat wants to run against him in the primary in fear of being labeled a racist.

I wonder how a fiscally conservative Democrat would fare in the general election but the problem is that Democrat wouldn't make it out of the Democrat primary because the freebie receivers and the unions wouldn't allow it to happen.

This is a ridiculous thread. First of all, it's intended to be divisive by even posing the question as a racial issue. Secondly, how can anyone say with 100% certainty how they will vote when we don't even know WHO will be running?

Several million.

Booya, I know this is the interweb but it's still disappointing when people use perceived anonymity to make inflammatory statements and baseless assumptions. Per NPR President Obama received 52 percent of his votes from independents, according to exit polls last November, a margin that was crucial to his victory.
I know news is rarely fact, exit polls aren't scientific and statistics can be manipulated to say any number of ridiculous and convenient things. But I'm making an effort here, to say that there are a few million people who consider more than race and the party line when voting.
Of course, their numbers pale in comparison to the many many voters who would do otherwise.

Who I voted for and who I will vote for is irrelevant. As long as I've made an independent informed decision, I expect I've done my civic duty.

Yeah, alot of threads are CD could be labeled, "ridiculous" however I've seen a lot worse! LOL.

I do believe the OP was submitting a hypothetical question as to whether Obama would get the white vote.

Who do you think voted him in in 2008? If every black person in America voted its only 12% of the population for crying out loud. And we all know that didn't happen.

Thanks for you response. I am slightly surprised because as I said the two parties are so very far apart on so many "trigger" issues.

What? good grief. If Obama identifies himself as black then that is fine. I simply said I don't consider him black-that wasn't an insult to him just my opinion! why do some people on this fourm bristle at others opinions. Fact is that Obama is 1/2 black and 1/2 caucasian but if it is insulting to you that some don't consider him black then sorry.
BTW no one is trying to take anything away from Obama, or heaven forbid "slap him in the face!' lol
