Everyone will be. I feel very sorry for single parents that can just keep their head above water to keep a job.

How much does the state of CA gouge you guys taxwise per gallon?
California has excessive fuel taxes and regulations and the prices vary widely the cheapest where i'm at is $3.42. Also California has a different "blend" of gas used for the summer and that's more expensive. I've seen alot of stations at $3.50 and higher.

The highest I paid for the cheap stuff a few years ago when prices were high was $4.69 and if the Middle East continues on like it has we'll probably be back around $5.00 in no time.

Yet many want to destroy them further by removing all support for their lives like Section 8 housing, breakfast programs for children, subsidized lunches, child health care, WIC, etc.

There is NO mass transit in areas of the High Desert( except a few bus lines to the mall and post office) and some inland Riverside and San Bernadino County areas of S. California and it's not unheard of for people to commute 50-100 miles one way into LA,Orange County for higher paying jobs back to more affordable housing inland.

When gas was cheaper you could make it, but with higher gas prices you're screwed. In the Hesperia/Victorville area about 1/3 of it's citizens have long commutes to work. Even in parts of LA County in Lancaster and Palmdale you have people driving to Long Beach to work in Aerospace.

But aren't all of these choices.
And don't you have a right to start some sort of public transportation, or check on carpools.

Both of my houses (albeit not in CA), I bought on public transport lines.

I think anyone who has a vehicle other than a company car is suffering around this country. Even if you don't drive, it affects everyone because everything you buy is getting expensive.

I don't drive that much though.

Yes they are, they were choices many made in better times when fuel was cheaper and the economy was better.

No one can see into the future, if they could they would make all the "Right" choices. With jobs scarce, housing in the dumps it's harder to act on new choices.

Unless you work at a large Company and start at the same time and place carpools aren't really a practical choice. How do you propose "some sort of Public Transportation" when California is laying off teachers, furloughing State Workers and closing Libraries and DMV's?

Even in good times Califirnia worked at a snail's pace. I see what your saying but unfortunately California's politicians have failed badly.

At this time California is cutting services to the Elderly, handicapped and inhouse care to invalids yet it pays out billions to non citizen Illegal Aliens and their Anchor Babies. And it's only going to get worse.

BTW I priced a fuel efficient car(Prius) before my last purchase and it was $7 grand more than a comparable sized gas run vehicle, how log would I have to drive that before I broke even?
Not worth it until the price of a hybrid and/or electric is made more affordable.

Maybe that's a signal for people to stop living so far from where they work.

Americans have the most self-entitlement in the world. How can you expect to live 100 miles from their jobs?

If housing closer is more expensive... you can't have everything.

I agree with what your saying, alot of people made this sacrifice for their children. At one time renting a 2 bedroom apt. in the LA/Orange Co. area was around $ 1200. a month when inland you could buy with a low down and $800-900 a month for a 3-4 bedroom with a yard.

Hoping that jobs and better infrastructure would be created in those communities in the future so you wouldn't have to commute. Never happened and alot of people are moving back to the Cities, but in this economy it's harder with falling home prices and fewer jobs.
